Halloween Costume Ideas

Halloween is nearly upon us and for those who usually end up with last-minute costumes, Rockliffe Residences has some inspiration to help you put together something great!

If you can spend a few days or a short time gathering items for a costume, try these:

  • Swedish Chef: Bring the Swedish Chef from the Muppet Show to life with a chef hat, red bowtie, an apron, and a white collar shirt. Be sure to wear a fake mustache and cut fake hair to stick to the front of the chef's hat for eyebrows!

  • Cat in the Hat: Wear a white shirt with a black jacket and black pants. Add Cat ears and a tail, paint on a cat face, then top it all off with the famous red and white stripped top hat.

  • Jellyfish: Purchase a clear umbrella and use bubble wrap and white party streamers to make hanging stingers all around the edge of the umbrella. If you don't want to hold onto an umbrella all night, use an umbrella hat, but paint it white or silver before adding the stingers.

Looking for a work-appropriate and comfortable costume option? Try these:

  • Liz Lemon from 30 Rock: Pop on a pair of jeans, casual t-shirt, blazer and a lanyard containing an NBC pass. Wear your hair down in a loose, carefree style and throw on a pair of your favourite plastic frames. Bonus points for perfecting her trademark eye-roll!

  • Mime: Throw on your 'go-to' black and white striped top or dress and wear a black blazer on top. Other optional items: Black suspenders, white neck scarf, white gloves. For your face, add some light face powder or foundation all over, deep rouge on your cheeks, red lipstick and using black eyeliner, create tear drop shapes under your eyes- one on each side. If you have a black beret or flimsy hat, go for it!

  • Mad Men: If you have any retro dresses or suits in your closet- this is the easiest costume ever! For women- use some extra hairspray in the AM, to give your 'do' some extra lift. If you're feeling ambitious try one of these hairstyles. For men- grab one of your dad or grand-dad's old hats, pair it with a suit and voila! For an added touch, carry around a short tumbler for a drink 'on the rocks' -- with a work-friendly refreshment of course!

  • If you're not keen on dressing up but don't want to miss out on the fun, pop on a crown or tiara and be "Queen (or King) for a Day".

If you don't like dressing up, but have been invited to a costume party, try these:

  • 404 Error Code: Take a simple white tee-shirt and using black marker, write "Error 404: Costume Not Found"

  • Fork in the Road: Take a black tee-shirt and using yellow duct or masking tape, create a vertical dashed line up the middle of the shirt. Then pin a plastic fork on the line.

  • Identity Theft: Dress normally, however stick "Hello, My Name is" stickers all over your clothes with different names written on them.

Rockliffe Residences wishes all residents a fun and safe Halloween!
